Reintroduction…

Published by coot66 under Old Stuff Edit This

And here, dear reader, is when it gets interesting. I’ve decided to change the course of this simple blog to reflect one of my true passions- good deals and free samples. Each day, I’ll posting a new deal I find. Most of these will be things I’ll discover on one of favorite websites- SlickDeals.net. Each post will reflect the best deal of the day, obviously, in my opinion. It’ll save you the time to have to read every single post on those forums and would give me an excuse to do so (seeing as I already spend a crazy amount of time on the site). I’ll credit the poster who originally made the post on Slickdeals and provide a rep link, for those who are members and would like to thank the user. I’ll even rename my little blog- the new title shall be “The Slickest Deal.”

And to tie up loose ends here’s what happened with religious conversation:

Me: What does God have to do with intimacy or love? Why would you turn to the Bible for a definition? It’s very possible to have a relationship where two people share their lives without having God or religion involved…

Priest: One of the most common struggles in human history has been to repeat mistakes instead of learning wisdom gleaned from generations past. This is one reason to try and learn from the wisdom gained from history, including history that includes writings that are Divinely inspired and God-centered. I am also fascinated by what the Creator has to say to those whom He has created and the best ways they can relate to each other. Is there a more specific area you want to talk about in terms of relationships?

Me: I’m afraid I don’t agree. I think part of the beauty of being human is the ability to makes mistakes and learn from them rather than rely on “wisdom gleaned from generations past.” More importantly, I don’t see why anyone would turn to religious texts, which are full or controversy, for advice on relationships. What authority does the Bible have to say how we should lead relationships? And why is your response full of religious notion you think everyone’s accepted? I don’t think of God as “the Creator” or that the Bible is anything more than a collection of old tales passed on over the ages.

Priest: So, then, what part of the discussion shall we move toward? We can go with relationships or we can talk about Scripture in general, or some texts in particular. (I didn’t mean to assume anything about your or others’ beliefs in my previous email…I did want to be clear, though, on where I was coming from…)

Me: Well, I think we can start with my first question, (name edited). Why would people turn to the Bible for relationship advice? I don’t think people read ancient scrolls or other scholarly and historic texts to learn how find their future partner. Frankly, I think relationships are something you’d only learn about from experience rather than reading.

And I never heard from him again… Maybe I made a few good points! Laughing

And as for that Benjamin Button film- I felt the actors weren’t really good or into their roles and more importantly, the story didn’t give a complete perspective of Benjamin’s life. Also, I felt Benjamin acted seflishly often and his message of being able to start fresh whenever you want is only true if you inherit a lot of money (as he did)…

But now, on to bigger and better things! Tomorrow starts my new blog!
