Facebook Advertising…
I’m sure many of you folks use Facebook, one of the Internet’s largest social network sites. I’m a big fan of it- there’s no better way to ignore work and get back in touch with old friends. As you know and probably noticed, Facebook has ads. I’m one of those people who actually reads the ads for fun- everyone once in a while there’s something noteworthy. I did a couple paying surveys and some beta testing for a few companies by following through with leads I got from the ads. I actually used the ads to advertise for a marketing campaign I ran once, but that’s a story for another time…
Nowadays, I’ve been getting a lot of ads for a site called EveryStudent.com. The ads always have to do with some typical problem college students face- relationship issues, drinking, hard classes, etc. Clicking the ad takes you to an article on EveryStudent.com which takes the subject and randomly adds religion into it. I’m really bothered by this- while I generally go as an agnostic, I hate when people try pushing religion (of any kind). This site irks me because it tries to exploit students looking for help by trying to have them turn to the Bible. One of article dealt with relationships and how we can only find meaningful and true relationships by reading what the Bible tells us and understanding what God meant for us to do. I’m still trying to find the link now- they have a lot of propaganda there and it’s difficult to find the one that I’m complaining about. Personally, I have a great relationship with a girl who’ll (God willing
) become my fiancé one of these days and managed to get there without God or religion. I wrote an e-mail about how the article was stupid, got a response, and sent more of my thoughts. Let’s see where this goes! I’ll probably post highlights tomorrow…
